Manolis Karpathios was born in Athens and his family's origins go back to the island of Dodecanese, Kalymnos.
Initially he attended guitar lessons next toGerasimos Miliaresis and then studied Byzantine and traditional music in Simonas Karas' school under Konstantinos Markos'guidance.
He studied the kanun in Contantinople, next to Halil Karaduman.
He has worked in cooperation with many well known artists and singers of the contemporary Greek music in concerns and music halls as well as in discography and TV programmes.
He has the supervision of a series of Byzantine and traditional music discography publications.
He teaches the kanun in the Museum of Greek Traditional Instruments in Athens
His mini cd"Travelling with the kanun" is his first personal music work which was recorded with the collaboration of distinguished musician and Dora Petridis voice in two songs.
