The first seminar was hosted by the traditional music Kykkos Monastery Friday, 05 August 2011 Written by Luke Panayiotou - 13.02 With great success the individual in all respects, traditional Greek music seminar, held from 18 until 24 July, in specially designated areas of the hotel-camp of Kykkos Monastery, attracting many looks from the region. The opportunity to broaden their horizons, and gain high-level musical performances were those who attended the first, on Cyprus' territory, traditional music workshop, hosted versions Maistor and cultural group of St. Mark with the kind support and hospitality of the Holy Kykkos Monastery and the audiences and Tillyrias Kykkos Bishop Nikiforos. Eminent and distinguished musicians from Greece and Cyprus taught traditional instruments, Byzantine music and traditional song. Head of scientific musical staff was Manolis Karpathios, one of the greatest virtuosos of traditional Greek music and who taught kanun. With him on the Greek musicians Mitsios Costas, who taught oud, lute and bouzouki, Demetris Zachariou, who taught violin kemence, theory and practice of Byzantine music. Meanwhile, Michael Hadjimichael and Christos Georgiades Cyprus taught singing and Byzantine notation, respectively. During the seminar, there were both theoretical and practical presentations rich delivery, with particular emphasis on the musical tradition and the "voices" of our Cyprus and in this part of some 40 musicians and students from Greece and Cyprus. The methodology developed in the traditional music sessions, the aim was real understanding of the concept and philosophy of the Greek tradition, through the many aspects and expressions. The seminar was held in collaboration with the Centre for Research and Promotion of the National Music Simon Karas, whose members are teachers. |
