Anna Sarri Karabessini, our favorite songwriter and songwriter, left her last breath at the age of 95 as she faced health problems.
The appearance of her death has caused deep sorrow in the Kos community and throughout the Aegean.
Anna Sarri-Karabessini was born in Antimachia, Kos. Endowed by God with a unique voice from an early age, with her first teachers her parents, she loved the song and devoted her to it with passion and passion. She went to Athens in 1947 with her sister Eftyhia. In 1949 he met and married Babis Karabessin. They lived together for 35 years until 1984 where Babis left life.
In Athens in the early 1950s, her meeting with Simon Kara was decisive for Anna's later artistic career. Kara was very much influenced by his ethos and knowledge, as well as by his strong personality. Near her Anna learned many songs besides the island, she knew well, but also songs from the rest of Greece. In 1952 he returned to Kos and went to Athens only for artistic duties.
Anna, accompanied by her sister Euthychia, who had a nice and melodious voice, recorded 23 recordings of 33 turns, which are rare for the time and especially for traditional musicians, considering that they did not live in Athens nor did they ever work night clubs.
Songs of foreignness, love, the sea with the top ARGA which Anna has singled out, because its interpretation of them is shocking. Anna and Eftychia took part in many TV shows as well as in programs of the Greek Radio with the group: Anna Sarri-Karabessini.
In the United States, Canada and Australia, Anna's presence at Greek-style events has been and remains an unforgettable experience for our immigrants. In 2001, Eustacy left, Anna lost her sister who loved her, but her artistic mate.
Anna Sarri-Karabessini rescued recording many old songs and songs that would surely have been lost. She also wrote the lyrics in many of her songs expressing the mischief, the sufferings and the joys of people genuine, authentic and just as they are in our lives. Inexhaustible and inexhaustible she continues to sing and speak with an enviable appetite for her great passion, the traditional song.
